“Multiculturalism is more than just the acknowledgment of a diverse cultural background. Here at ECU, we witness the intertwining and interaction between cultures, local and international, and the positive influences they play on each
other: World Influence.”

The International Student Council at Edith Cowan University is proud to announce the 2007 Multicultural Week. This annual festival is a celebration of the cultural diversity in Western Australia and will be held at the Joondalup, Mount Lawley and Churchlands campuses from the 3rd – 6th October 2007. The theme for this year’s event is World Influence.

Multicultural Week 2007 Events Overview

This year’s multicultural week celebration will have a concoction of various cultural influences incorporated in the events.

International Film Festival:
Date: Wednesday 3rd October
Time: 10am – 5 pm
Venue: ALL campuses

MCW Carnival Day:
Date: Thursday 4th October
Time: 11am – 5pm
Venue: Mount Lawley campus Gazebo area

This years carnival will incorporate performances such as the lively Spanish flamenco dances, exotic Indian instrumental extravaganzas, traditional Aboriginal didgeridoo performances, hypnotizing oriental dj-ing, and fast-paced ground moving African drum dances.

Iftar Gathering
Date: Friday 5th October

Time: 5:30pm – 8pm
Venue: Churchlands Campus Building 13.

During this month, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking between sunrise and sunset, breaking their fast with a meal called the Iftar. This practice is embedded within various cultures and is an opportunity for everyone to gather over a delicious meal after a long day.

Aroma Cafe Cup of Nations Soccer Tournament
Date: Saturday 6th October
Time: 10am – 5:30pm
Venue: ECU Joondalup Sports Oval

The finale of the MCW Events, the Cup of Nations is a seven-a-side soccer tournament co-organized by the African Students Association. Watch twenty teams from ECU, UWA, Curtin, Murdoch and Notre Dame dodge it out at the Oval. Lunch will be available for purchase.
